Description
The chair that stopped treating sitting as a single position
Most task chairs are built around one assumption: that you will sit facing forward, at roughly ninety degrees, for eight hours. The Capisco was built around the opposite idea. Its saddle seat and shoulder-shaped backrest let you sit forward at a keyboard, lean back to read, straddle it in reverse to talk to a colleague, or perch high at a standing desk — and treats every one of those as a legitimate way to work.

Why it suits Australian workplaces
Sit-stand desks are now standard in most fitted-out offices here, and the Capisco is one of very few chairs that genuinely works across the full height range rather than being a seated chair with a longer gas lift bolted on.
-
Built for sit-stand
Perch height suits a raised desk without a separate stool, so one chair covers both working heights. -
Opens the hip angle
The saddle profile encourages a more open hip position than a flat seat pan, which helps the pelvis stay upright. -
Encourages movement
Four usable sitting positions instead of one, so posture changes naturally through the day. -
Ten-year guarantee
Covered for ten years against manufacturing defects in normal use up to nine hours a day.
Adjustments and detail
Saddle seat
The two-part seat lets you sit astride it, side-saddle or reversed. Sitting backwards puts your chest against the backrest and gives your arms clear space in front — useful for detailed bench and screen work.
Height-adjustable back
The backrest slides up and down the column so support lands where your spine actually needs it, whatever your height. It doubles as a chest rest when the chair is used in reverse.
Tilt with tension control
Adjust how much resistance the tilt gives, or lock it off entirely. Heavier users can dial the tension up so the chair does not feel like it is tipping away underneath them.
Seat depth adjustment
Slide the seat forward or back to set the gap behind your knees. Short-legged and long-legged users can share the same chair without one of them losing circulation.
Three gas lift options
150 mm, 200 mm and 265 mm columns are available. The 200 mm suits most standard desks; the 265 mm is the one to order if the chair lives at a sit-stand desk.
Repairable by design
Designed for disassembly without special tools. Castors, gas lift, seat and upholstery can each be replaced individually rather than writing off the whole chair.

Made to last, and made to be taken apart
The most sustainable chair is the one nobody has to replace. The Capisco has been in continuous production since 1984, and it’s designed for disassembly without special tools — so individual parts can be repaired or replaced rather than the whole chair being scrapped.
Per HÅG’s own 2024 product factsheet, the Capisco 8106 contains 50% recycled material (post-consumer and post-industrial waste), with a carbon footprint of 32.87 kg CO₂ equivalents per chair. It’s certified to ISO 14001, holds an EU Ecolabel and an EPD (EN 15804 +A2), and meets GREENGUARD Gold and Möbelfakta standards for low chemical emissions.

Common questions
Is a saddle chair comfortable if I have never used one?
There is an adjustment period, and it is worth being upfront about that. Most people need one to two weeks before the saddle position feels normal, because it engages postural muscles a conventional seat pan lets you switch off. Start with a few hours a day rather than going straight to a full shift.
Which gas lift should I order?
For a fixed-height desk around 720–730 mm, the 200 mm lift covers almost everyone. If the chair will be used at a sit-stand desk in its raised position, order the 265 mm lift and add a HÅG FootRing — otherwise your feet will hang unsupported at standing height.
Will it work for someone very tall or very short?
Better than most chairs, because the backrest height adjusts independently of the seat and the seat depth slides. That combination is what usually causes the fit problem in a conventional chair, where the lumbar support sits at a fixed height.
Does it help with lower back pain?
A chair is one factor among many, and we would not claim any chair treats back pain. What the saddle design does is make it easier to keep the pelvis upright and to change position often, both of which are commonly recommended. If you have a diagnosed condition or an existing injury, speak to your physiotherapist or an occupational therapist about whether this style of seating suits your situation before ordering.
What is covered by the warranty?
Ten years against manufacturing defects, based on normal use of up to nine hours per day. This is in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, which cannot be excluded.
